Michelle Abraham:Hey, Amplifyou, Michelle Abraham here, your host. I'm here today with Cori Javid from behind the mic interview. Cori is got eight amazing podcast called the limitless mother podcast. And it's funny, I was just interviewing her on postal heritage. And I thought, Cori, I want to know more about your podcasting journey. It's exploded her business, and she absolutely loves podcasting. So I thought this would be a perfect behind the mic interview for you and amplify you guys. So Cori, welcome. Thanks for joining me.
Cori Javid:Yeah, I'm excited to be here. Thanks.
Michelle Abraham:Yeah. Well, that's so great to be so glad we got to connect and hear a little bit about your podcast. So how long have you been podcasting? For?
Cori Javid:Yes, I was just thinking about it. So I'm coming up to in November, it'll be my fifth anniversary in business. So it must be my fourth then anniversary of my podcast?
Michelle Abraham:Oh, yeah. Well, congratulations. Because I was just at pod fest a few weeks ago, as the statistics we were hearing about people making it past 20 episodes was like, more than 75% of people don't make a test 20 episodes, and then only 16% of those who may get past 20 episodes get to the first year. So being four years in, you're like a unicorn out there. So
Cori Javid:I'll take that. Thank you. I'm not surprised by that. Because as somebody who who mentor mentors, business owners, I know that consistency is the key, really. And I know that it's really difficult for people to maintain that consistent. Yeah,
Michelle Abraham:me too. Because this is see me to the energy. Keep it going keep it fresh. And then also keep the same business that you started the podcast with right, I think things change. So actually speaking of that, have things changed since the first year your podcast to the fourth year of your podcast? Has your business been the same throughout?
Cori Javid:Oh, undoubtedly, things have changed? Yeah. So I think one of the benefits of having more of a personal brand. So my my business name is my name means that my kind of like business can pivot with me and grow with me, which is quite good. But yeah, I've brought more and more topics to the show that that, you know, weren't even on my radar Initially when I started out with the podcast. So for example, we talk a lot more about energy, and feminine energy. And using that in business as a mother and business owner. That wasn't something that we ever talked about, like the first year, for example, when I first started my podcast, I was working pretty much exclusively one to one with my clients. And as a result of launching my podcast, my business just exploded, I became fully booked very with a long waiting list. And then, in 2011, I think when this was now the end of 2020, I pivoted my business model a little bit and started bringing in masterminds and group programs to my business. So there's been a lot of changes over the time.
Michelle Abraham:But has your podcast had to shift at all? Like you'll see a lot of people now where like they start off their business, and their podcasts are like alignment. And then over time, they slowly get out of alignment. Have you had to do any like relaunching or re reconfiguring of your podcasts or your podcast is pretty consistent over time.
Cori Javid:Yeah, I think I feel like I've just brought it with me over time. So I haven't I haven't let it kind of go off on its own tangent. One thing that we did change, though, just by looking at the numbers and paying attention to what people like is I started off with a lot of interviews, and I really enjoy doing interviews and I really wanted to bring stories of women to the podcast. They were not nearly as listeners to as my solo episodes. And I was like, oh, that's something significant that we changed. But now we haven't ever had to rebrand or particularly relaunch yet because it's just kind of come along with me.
Michelle Abraham:Yeah, that's fantastic. And it seems like your business has really grown. Like you said, it really exploded from the podcast. Are there some things that you can now look back and say, these were definitely some things that I did that really helped that explosive growth in my business from my podcasts?
Cori Javid:Yes. I think the first thing is I didn't start it to explode my, my my business. You know, I started it from the passion of doing it. And I noticed stuff. My favorite way to consume content was podcasts. Whereas in my business prior to that my kind of like meatiest content was a Facebook Live every week, and I love doing Facebook Lives. But because I target mothers and business owners, they'll pretty much never actually live with me. They're all watching replays. So I started thinking about these two things in in connection. And actually, could I create more intimate relationship with my audience by actually launching a podcast, because there's something just a little bit more intimate about having somebody just in your headphones, it feels almost like more of a private conversation, you know, and I really wanted people to feel like we were just talking one to one. And so it started from that place of just wanting to deepen my relationship with my connection with my community. And I did not anticipate that it would explode my business. So I think part of it is the intention that you bring to it. And I should mention that at the time, I was doing a lot of, you know, I mindset experts. So I was doing a lot of mindset work on being fully booked. But it just it was like everything just combined at the perfect time to really take off in that way. Does that make sense? You have,
Michelle Abraham:I think you said a really key thing, that I've also noticed that a lot of our clients shows that have really taken off is that you spoke to like that, that like you were the one speaking having a one on one conversation. That's what they were hearing in their ears. I know that from some of our other clients that's really helped them grow their podcasts a lot, because people feel like oh my gosh, she's speaking to me, like, yeah, she's like, I also hear you say, a few other things that I think are really key is like, you're always inviting people to kind of direct message you or find me on Instagram and connect with you and like build that community with you. And I think that's really key to like, you're inviting people to take the next step and working with you or, you know, take the next step. So where is it? How do people get from your podcast to to working with you? Is it usually through a Facebook group? Or is it through DMS or?
Cori Javid:Yeah, so lately, it's been just quite directly through DMS. But also, I will direct them to, for example, for the mastermind, will we have a waitlist for it, so like an email waitlist, they can just show their interest, and then we'll connect with them that way. But it's people finding out about the waitlist via the podcast. So it's that invitation to take the next step. So the next step is send me a message in Instagram, or go to the specific service page and sign up. So those are the direct routes in but it is the podcast, like you said, it helps people to feel like they know you. And as you know, as a coach, it's really important. So that's definitely been my aim is I want people to feel like they really know me and know what it would be like to work with me just by sitting and listening. Obviously, it's not the same same, but they have that feeling. You know,
Michelle Abraham:right? The listeners are like, she's my girl, like she's like, oh, like, yes. Yeah. And like that they can self select by listening to you be like, yes, I want to work with her. Right. So
Cori Javid:I noticed. Sorry, just No, go ahead, please about that for a minute. I noticed. So I typically have done previously discovery calls as a, you know, way of inviting people to have a conversation about working with me. And I noticed after having my podcast, a real shift in how those discovery calls went. So it went from people being like, kind of already convinced before they got on the phone to like, where do I sign up, please take my money. And I thought I was like this is really interesting, because they just felt like they know me so much more it was warming my audience more effectively than previously, which was really lovely to see.
Michelle Abraham:Ever, like eliminates the sales conversation? Do? We just like we have what's the where's the paperwork? How do I sign?
Cori Javid:I call it what have we ever faced for them inside my business? My clients, we call them Yes. Conversations and somebody walks up and they're like, I'm already sweating. Yeah, exactly.
Michelle Abraham:Exactly. That's amazing. Well, congratulations, Ed. Your top two percentage on your podcast is in the top 2% of all podcasts out there. But we're all digital that
Cori Javid:thank you for telling me.
Michelle Abraham:According to listen to us, yeah, you're the top 2% So that's pretty awesome. Right? So instead of 2.8 million podcast your sits in the top 2% So wow, amazing, right?
Cori Javid:celebrate that. stats that we get. The other thing that I just love about being a podcaster is like I get many emails from charitable and I love seeing that you know Oh, it's we've been on the charts in Norway this week and Singapore and cool to like think of listeners all around the world like listening and I think that's the the amazing thing about podcast as a format, isn't it just our ability to reach people globally and just connects across the world? It's so cool. Yeah,
Michelle Abraham:I love it. And you know, our listeners know that my story was all about like, it's like being the mom but listening to podcasts and like getting out and taking my son for a walk and like really helped me get my mojo back like about, you know, being in business and being inspired. And I was so inspired by a podcast. So I imagine a lot of your listeners are probably saved. They like their earbuds and take their kids for a walk in the stroller while they listen.
Cori Javid:To tell me that I'm part of their like morning like dog walking routine. So hold on tell me that their kids just know me as well. Like, Cory, she's back on the radio in the car.
Michelle Abraham:We had this running joke in our family that we were listening to a lot of like entrepreneur podcasts as well, they said was little like, he's gonna be an entrepreneur. If he's not, I will be like, so surprised because we're listening. So many business podcasts. So for those parents that are listening with their kids with you, I'm sure it's the same thing. He's died now. And he just said to me this week yet. Remember, I'm going to start a business this summer, we're gonna sell chips and drinks on the lake. To people at the beach. I was like, All right. Let's router. Yeah.
Cori Javid:Yeah. Exactly. We can share that with them. And like, they're just going to be these like business geniuses like
Michelle Abraham:they started conditioning their business brain from the toddler and newborn. America. Yeah. So is there been something in your podcasting journey that you wish you had known before you got started that you want to share with some of our listeners that maybe haven't gotten started yet?
Cori Javid:Something that I wish that I'd known. I just wish, I wish that I'd known how good it was going to be so that I'd started sooner, because actually, I'd sat on the idea of a podcast for about six months before I felt kind of confident enough to pull the trigger on it. And I, you know, I had the same things that we have in a bit silly at times, I was like, Well, I can go live on Facebook, why is just sitting behind a microphone, feel different, but it felt different? You know, I remember thinking it was going to be harder than it actually ended up being. And yeah, like, there was something to be afraid of, and there really isn't. And it's only been anything to gain, really. So that would be the main thing that I wish I'd known as just how good it would be and how much I would enjoy it. Because you know, I'm this far in, I'm in like, 200 and 40th. Episode, and I'm just obsessed with it. Like, I'm like, you know, you would have to really prize my fingers off of my pocket. I think that I would keep the most for the longest, you know,
Michelle Abraham:yeah. Do you do all the editing all the production of it yourself to?
Cori Javid:Oh, no, absolutely. No, that would be another tip would be don't even try
Michelle Abraham:every that's why you still love it so much. You know how to do that stuff.
Cori Javid:I had a try for about 10 minutes. And I was like, Well, this is ridiculous. It's not my zone of genius. Let me leave this to somebody who is. And actually, that was something that was important to me, I wanted my podcast to sound good. I wanted it to be like a high quality because I've listened to some where the sound would be off and all over the place. And it's kind of hard to listen to. So definitely recommend getting a good team and to help you out. Right,
Michelle Abraham:exactly. Yeah, don't bother doing it yourself, please. So is there something that was harder than you thought like, that you've kind of struggled with with podcasting? I know, it's been a really amazing journey for you. Is there anything that you kind of like, got through while getting going?
Cori Javid:Um, this is gonna be annoying answer, but no.
Michelle Abraham:It's okay. It doesn't have to there doesn't have to be problems.
Cori Javid:I'll tell you. I'll tell you why I think this is I have I had to I was on a podcast interview a while back. And somebody asked me about my kind of origin story and business and they said, Oh, everybody's got a struggle story. And I was like, sorry, I'm not that person. And that can be annoying to hear. But what I what I mean by that is because mindset work is my thing. It's my jam. And also, the thing that I'm always quite vocal about and happy to share about is the fact that I had from before I started my business, I invested in a coach and a mentor myself. So I've had support myself, mindset support, and I've done my mindset work. Which means that just though I just rarely come up against things that I have challenges in business, for sure, because we all do, but things don't typically continue to be any kind of struggle, just because I kind of am I able to get my way out. And does that make sense? So absolutely.
Michelle Abraham:Yeah, that's a great answer. And I was I wasn't looking for any like massive problems, but I was just curious. And I bet I bet your voice has gotten stronger to you over the last few years. Like your confidence in your voice. Would you say that has helped? Oh, cool. Yeah.
Cori Javid:I feel like you just learn to walk. I'm sure if I wouldn't do it, probably. I'm sure everyone. Listen back to like, the first couple of episodes and be twitching a little bit. sound of my voice. Yeah, I
Michelle Abraham:think we would all we would all be a little bit disturbed. If it was I can listen to our first episode. Right where it is?
Michelle Abraham:Yeah, exactly. I never go back and listen to any of them actually, because I was there. I know. But like I said, I don't have to go back It was.
Cori Javid:And I think you just develop an usefulness over time as well. Like, I feel like that's the thing that I've enjoyed us relaxing into it and just feeling like it is that conversation with one person. And I'm excited to speak to her this week, you know, I think that makes the difference. Really?
Michelle Abraham:Oh, I love that. Thank you for sharing that. Cori. This has been so fun to have you on and are glad you agreed to come on and share some of your insight. If there's any piece of advice you would give to our listeners that are sitting at home thinking that they're going to start a podcast, but haven't yet they think that you want to leave them with today?
Cori Javid:Yeah, don't ever think just do it. Just get it out there because we we learn by doing right. And it can seem like it's big. It's not actually that big. You know, there's things that we you know, get launched support, I had launch support around it. Get support in the editing, because if you get bogged down in some of the technical stuff, then it'll slow. Slowly roll but just decide the one person that you want to speak to decide the kind of key message like what is the thing that you happily get on your soapbox about what is that fire in your belly at the thing that you want to change or the way that you might want to make people feel? And just roll towards that and learn on the way?
Michelle Abraham:Awesome. That's great. I love it. All right, you guys. You heard it there. Just find the fire in your belly and get rolling with it. I love that advice. That's so great. Thanks so much for being here with us say amplify your family. Go out there and have a fabulous week. We'll see you again next week. Thank you.
